Ancient Greece

Ancient Greece. Athens. Attica.440-404BC. Tetradrachm. 17.26g. 90% plus Crest (almost full). Full owl, fig and AOE legends within incused square.

Choice almost uncirculated to mint state. Rare in such condition and strike.
One of my first major ancient Greek silvers when I first started collecting coins, I have decided to upgrade my original worn Attica tet and came across this lovely piece.

Being one of history’s first trade currencies, the famous Athenian owl is a classic piece amongst serious collectors. Given unusual flans, heavy circulation and poorly centred strikes, specimens with almost to full Crest are rare. Now I am happy and willing to let go of my old piece.
